What a way to celebrate Australia Day and the incredible history of Australia’s oldest soap manufacturer.
On Wednesday 25th January, Tilley Soaps Australia was delighted to welcome weather funnyman, Stevie Jacobs, and Channel 9’s TODAY show team to its new state-of-the-art fragrance factory in Bayswater, Victoria.
Following an early wake up call, Stevie learnt Tilley’s tricks of the trade (dating back to the 1800’s!), walked through the longest candle production line in the Southern Hemisphere, put his nose to a fragrance test with Tilley’s Co-Owner, Patrick Arundel, and took TODAY’s audience through the evolution of soap making… from hand pressed to state-of-the-art machinery producing 140,000 bars per day.
The live crosses were part of a series by TODAY, showcasing some of Australia’s oldest family-owned businesses. Founded in Melbourne in 1865 by Arthur Tilley, the brand has overseen two world wars, a Great Depression, GFC and many more challenges. Tilley has changed ownership twice since its humble beginnings, and this year, celebrates its 152nd anniversary of Australian made and owned products.
