Fact: Over 12 months, on average, one woman is killed every week by a current or former partner.

On Friday 8th May, the men and women behind the auction hammers at Harcourts Victoria sported their suits and heels for a walk with purpose down Melbourne’s Southbank. The third annual ‘Walk a Mile in their Shoes’ campaign raised over $100,000 for White Ribbon Australia, the only national, male-led campaign to end domestic violence.

2015 Australian of the Year and White Ribbon advocate, Rosie Batty, alongside White Ribbon ambassadors, Clint Bizzell and John Caldwell led hundreds of high-heeled men and women from Southbank to City Square trailed by photographers, TV and radio crews.

The driving force behind the campaign is CEO Harcourts Victoria, Sadhana Smiles, who is one of only a handful of female CEOs in Australia’s property industry. Since introducing the initiative to Melburnians in 2013, Sadhana and the Harcourts Victoria network have helped raise more than $160,000 for the cause.

It was fantastic to see media so responsive to this important issue and making a stand against domestic violence, with campaign coverage received on Channels 7, 9, 10, ABC and SBS News alongside the Herald Sun and other print publications.

While the Mkt. team are in heels on a daily basis, we were thrilled to walk alongside Sadhana, Rosie, Clint, John, and all those who participated in the stellar fundraising effort!
