From the 3rd till the 5th of May I was lucky enough to attend one of the largest and most prestigious design festivals in the world … Agideas. Over the 3 day conference at the new Melbourne Exhibition Centre, 40 internationally acclaimed designers shared their insights and experiences in a 30 minute talk.
The sell-out event not only expanded my design dialogue but opened my mind to new creative possibilities and inspired me to think about design and it’s meaning.
Celebrating the theme; design is difference, this forum presented creative diversity exploring design from the most contemporary in digital media to the master’s of traditional technique. From the areas of graphic design, product design, motion graphics, design for film and television, new media, web design, animation, illustration, typography, architecture, fashion and textiles, sound design, performance art, and advertising.
Some of the speakers that stood out to me included; fashion photographer Georges Antoni who has worked for the likes of Vogue and Harpers Bazaar and had an inspiring story of how he got into the industry, Iain Mccaig the world famous illustrator that has created characters such as Darth Maul from Star Wars, and of course the quirky designers from Something Splendid that push the boundaries in design and have fun stepping outside the realm of normality.
Every speaker had a unique angle on what makes them the designer or artist they are today, and I think this is what makes Agideas such a successful event. I came out of the 3 days feeling refreshed, inspired and excited about design.
